Note: this post is in conjunction with a travel photography assignment I have been working on for a freelance photography course.

Majority of Australian’s have been known to portray Adelaide as the City of Churches, when in fact there are many things to do and see. Here I will express why it’s so much more and the other beauties of South Australia.

Starting in the heart of the city on North Terrace, you can get your cultural and historical fix by visiting the Art Gallery of SA and the State Library.

The Art Gallery of SA consists of multiple different galleries with displays from Australia, Europe, North America and Asia. The galleries include such displays as paintings, sculptures, prints, drawings, photographs, textiles, furniture, ceramics, metalwork and jewellery. General admission to the gallery is free, with extra charges for certain exhibitions.

Heading to the state library on your holiday may seem like a “not so fun” thing to do, but if you’re into books, photography and quite possibly Harry Potter  – then checking out the Mortlock Wing of the library is a must do, with its old style architecture and dimmed lighting it’s something you do not want to miss.

In the heart of the city but feeling like you’re in another world are the botanical gardens. The botanical gardens are a great way to top off

the cultural fix with its many gardens to explore and the local wildlife to see. Visiting the botanic gardens in autumn will allow for you to experience its vibrant colours the garden has to offer.

Escaping from the heart of the city, South Australia is also known for its spectacular coastline, great beaches, jetties and sunsets. With so many exceptional beaches less than an hour away from the city centre, South Australia is the perfect place for a summer holiday. The best part to South Australian beaches is that it’s possible to visit them all, even if you’re only staying for a few days. Here are a few of my favourites..

I will be finishing off this travel assignment with the Marino to Hallett cove coastal boardwalk as I believe it a must do. The boardwalk environment is different for the metropolitan area, with its rugged cliffs, small coves and a rocky coast. Making sure you pack your camera and appropriate footwear, this is a compulsory experience when visiting South Australia.
